Wendy Hiller stars as a headstrong girl who sets out to marry a wealthy man for his money, but gets held up during her journey, and is forced to stay in a sleepy Scottish seaside town. It's not long before she falls instead for the charms of dashing Navy officer Roger Livesey, leaving her facing a tricky dilemma.
