The Hours
Movie (2002)
Magnificent, emotional drama exploring how Virginia Woolf's novel Mrs Dalloway affects the lives of three very different women - a put-upon Fifties housewife, a modern-day literary editor and the famed novelist herself. Director Stephen Daldry's follow-up to the acclaimed Billy Elliot received nine Oscar nominations, but Nicole Kidman, who is almost unrecognisable as Woolf, thanks to a prosthetic nose, was the only winner on the night. The talented cast includes Meryl Streep, Julianne Moore, Stephen Dillane, Miranda Richardson, Ed Harris, Toni Collette and John C Reilly.
