Rick Moranis stars as an eccentric professor who develops a ray which has the power to reduce objects in size. Unfortunately, his pesky kids and their meddling friends accidentally trigger it - and when they get shrunk to microscopic proportions and thrown out with the garbage, they are left to encounter all manner of enormous animals and insects as they make their way home across the back garden.
