A water spillage in a research lab allows cute furball Gizmo to spawn a new generation of murderous little carnivores, which plot to overrun New York. Joe Dante's crazy comedy sequel is stuffed full of sight gags and film-related in-jokes, and is not afraid to poke fun at the original - which is just as well, considering the threadbare plot itself. Luckily the cast, including Zach Galligan and Phoebe Cates, who also starred in the original, do a decent job. John Glover and Christopher Lee also appear, while Keye Luke returns as the Chinese curiosity shop owner Mr Wing
