Clint Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach all turn in expert performances as rivals hunting for a hidden cache of loot against the bloody backdrop of the American Civil War. A professional gunslinger, a greedy outlaw and a ruthless hit man all become aware of a shipment of gold hidden in a cemetery. But each only knows some of the information necessary to find it, setting in motion a deadly series of betrayals. Ennio Morricone's memorable soundtrack adds tension to the proceedings.
