A diplomat at the British High Commission in the African colony of Kinjana is caught up in a political crisis when oil is discovered in the country. For the British to benefit, however, the hapless official has to secure support for the illegal commercial plans of the president-elect, while also struggling with the pressures of sexual blackmail. Meanwhile, an earnest Scottish doctor is determined to rise above the diplomatic shenanigans.
