Movie (1994)

Comedy drama, starring Tom Hanks as the simple soul who acts as a living advertisement for the American Dream, bumbling through a bizarre series of adventures which lead to him becoming a football star, national hero and millionaire businessman. Robert Zemeckis's emotional and often humorous tale offers large helpings of patriotism which can be overbearing, but the performance of Hanks, coupled with special effects that see the hero sharing screen time with the likes of John F Kennedy, make this a wholesome slice of entertainment. Whether it deserved its clutch of Oscars is a debate unlikely to be resolved any time soon.
