Infectiously good-humoured musical drama charting the trials and aspirations of a group of talented students at New York's School for the Performing Arts as they train for a career in showbusiness. Alan Parker's film is somewhat darker than the successful TV series it spawned. Starring Irene Cara, who also sings the Oscar-winning theme tune, with Lee Curreri, Gene Anthony Ray and Paul McCrane
