This hugely enjoyable comedy follows a Pakistani chip shop owner in Seventies Salford as he tries to keep his seven unruly children under control. Revelling in the pleasures of adolescence, the flares-wearing youngsters seem determined to ignore his moral advice - but a shock is in store for the two eldest sons in the shape of arranged marriages. One of the first films of its kind to tackle the complexities of multicultural Britain with lighthearted strokes, Damien O'Donnel's box office hit is both refreshing and entertaining. The likeable cast includes Om Puri, Linda Bassett, Chris Bisson, Jimi Mistry, Jordan Routledge and Archie Panjabi
