Dog Day Afternoon

Movie (1975)

Al Pacino gives one of the best performances of his career in this odd, dialogue-heavy drama from director Sidney Lumet. It centres on Sonny, who plans a bank robbery in Brooklyn to pay for his male lover's sex-change operation. The whole event should take just 10 minutes, but a mix-up results in the novice felon and an accomplice getting holed up inside with several hostages as the police attempt to end the siege peacefully. Also starring John Cazale and Charles Durning
