David Lean's masterly Oscar-winning epic, adapted from Boris Pasternak's novel, charting the doomed love affair between a married doctor and the wife of a political activist during the Bolshevik revolution in Russia in 1917. Julie Christie and Omar Sharif are utterly convincing as the amorous couple who cannot control their mutual passion, and Lean proves himself equally capable of directing, memorable, intimate shots and sprawling, spectacular sequences of violence and excitement.
