Turkey/Kenya Turkey: delivering into Iraqi Kurdistan Turkey is situated at a crossroads between the East and the West. To the west, Istanbul straddles two continents while the eastern provinces look out onto Iran and Iraq. Trade has existed with these countries since time immemorial and this road was once the ancient Silk Route. For several years however, road traffic was disrupted due to the war in Iraq. These were bad years for the men who made their living from cross-border trade. Today, with stabilisation and reconstruction underway in the now autonomous province of Kurdistan, the drivers' lives are no longer at risk. Despite this, taking the highway into northern Iraq is no picnic. Kenya: the travelling cinema The trucks belonging to the 'Film Corporation of Kenya' criss-cross the country to organise free screenings of films for the public. The drivers enjoy driving through the countryside, where they bring the village children their first experience of the movies. Thanks to its trucks operating throughout the country, every evening this organisation attracts around 5000 viewers, making a total of some 60 million a year.
