Dedicated cellist Daigo Kobayashi finds himself unemployed when his orchestra is dissolved. He moves back to his home town and accepts a job preparing the recently deceased for burial and entry in the afterlife. While his wife and friends are deeply troubled by his profession, Daigo's determination to excel at his work exposes him to a new-found meaning to life.
