The human race faces annihilation when a comet is discovered to be on a collision course with Earth. The film follows the crisis from a variety of perspectives, including a teenage astronomer who spotted the comet, a journalist who stumbles on to the story, the US president and a team of astronauts given the task of preventing the disaster by destroying the incoming rock.
