An art critic romantically pursues a troubled painter, who has just been released from a mental hospital after killing his girlfriend seven years previously. The artist's mental state is still fragile, as he becomes increasingly obsessed with his victim, and things only get worse when he is asked to paint a portrait of a woman who is her exact double.
