Stephen Frears' superb, Oscar-winning drama of sexual politics among the decadent aristocracy of 18th-century France. John Malkovich is on fantastic, almost reptilian form as a philandering aristocrat who schemes with manipulative former lover Glenn Close to seduce the virtuous Michelle Pfeiffer. As their conspiracy becomes ever more tangled, events take an unexpected turn. Also starring Swoosie Kurtz, Uma Thurman and Keanu Reeves.
