A Union soldier's prejudiced outlook is transformed by Sioux Indians who befriend and adopt him into their tribe at the height of the American Civil War. This highly acclaimed Western is simply brilliant, and it's not hard to see why it scooped seven of the 12 Oscars for which it was nominated, including Best Film and Best Director for its star Kevin Costner. Mary McDonnell, Floyd Red Crow Westerman, Graham Greene and Maury Chaykin also appear. Adapted by Michael Blake from his own novel
