Salomon Sorowitsch, a gifted forger in Thirties Berlin, is captured by the Nazis and sent to a concentration camp. However, once there, he is recruited for a special assignment - to create fake foreign currency, as part of a plan to destabilise the US and British economies. Salomon's important role means his safety is guaranteed and he is spared the horror of the camp - but the morality of his actions begins to trouble him.
