Sissy Spacek won a well-deserved Oscar for her impersonation of Loretta Lynn in this acclaimed rags-to-riches biopic of the famous country singer, based on her autobiography. Michael Apted's film charts her transition from a life of poverty in Kentucky to her emergence as one of the first female superstars of the genre. Tommy Lee Jones and Beverly D'Angelo are on top form too in the supporting cast
