Movie (1949)
An ambitious fashion model climbs the social ladder by impulsively marrying a multi-millionaire. However, she soon finds he has a cruel and domineering side, forcing her to resort to desperate measures to escape her increasingly nightmarish home life. Director Max Ophuls tries to crank up the tension in this sumptuous, visually striking film noir, but sadly it remains a largely uninspired affair. Barbara Bel Geddes, Robert Ryan and James Mason head the cast
