Italian forces invade the picturesque Greek island of Kefalonia, where a newly arrived soldier soon falls for a local girl, much to the disapproval of the other inhabitants - not to mention her resistance-leader boyfriend. Romantic World War Two drama, adapted from the best-selling novel by Louis de Bernieres, which failed to live up to the high expectations of the public, largely thanks to the wooden performances from stars Nicolas Cage and Penélope Cruz
