An elderly woman with little money is in danger of losing her stately children's hospital unless she can find a collection of gold coins that are hidden somewhere in the building. A villainous con-man is also determined to get his hands on the treasure, and persuades American tomboy Jodie Foster to pose as heiress to the estate, but the tables are soon turned on the greedy crook.
