Comprehensive musical biopic charting the career of the legendary and highly influential Fifties rock 'n' roller, from his days as a little-known country singer to success with the Crickets and the tragedy of his premature death in a plane crash. The often-underrated Gary Busey scored an Oscar nomination for his performance in the leading role, while Charles Martin Smith, Don Stroud and Maria Richwine are excellent in support. Trivia fans may like to note that to add a touch of authenticity, the tuneful actors playing the Crickets played all their own instruments throughout
