Ross McElwee's documentary on the American tobacco industry, which charts the history of the product while also investigating the origins of Fifties film Bright Leaf. McElwee compares the story of a tobacco grower (played in the movie by Gary Cooper) left penniless by a ruthless corporation, with his own family's bitter experiences, and considers the health and economical impact the plant still has in contemporary culture
