Lonely housewife Francesca (Meryl Streep) meets an itinerant photographer (Clint Eastwood) in 1965 as he makes a record of rural Iowa's famous covered bridges - and it isn't long before the pair embark on a brief but passionate romance. Their story is framed by scenes of Francesca's adult children 30 years on, as they uncover her account of the affair, and begin to reassess their own lives as a result. Slow-moving romantic drama, bolstered by director and star Eastwood's careful handling and the stunning scenery. Also starring Annie Corley, Victor Slezak and Jim Haynie.
