Steeped in realism, Oliver Stone's masterly double Oscar-winning fact-based drama chronicles the life of Vietnam veteran Ron Kovic. Beginning with his early years as an eager-to-impress, patriotic Marine Corps recruit, it shows his terrifying experiences of the conflict and his eventual return from South-East Asia as a disillusioned anti-war activist, paralysed from the chest down and facing a harrowing journey of physical and mental recovery. Tom Cruise gives one of his best performances in the lead, while Willem Dafoe, Kyra Sedgwick and Josh Evans are among the supporting cast
