Synopsis:

Part one of Wolfgang Petersen's acclaimed drama following the passage of a German U-boat on a perilous World War Two mission. Meticulously detailed, the film was based on Lothar-Guenther Buchheim's autobiographical best-selling novel, and made as a six-hour TV mini-series, which went on to be cut for the American market. Jurgen Prochnow stars as the unflappable commander, alongside Herbert Gronemeyer and Klaus Wennemann
