A salesman and his spouse decide to adopt a child, but the thorough background checks carried out by the agency lead to a shocking revelation - he's been living a double life and has another doting wife and a baby. Sentimental drama which packs a surprisingly powerful punch, thanks to top performances from the cast, which includes Edmond O'Brien as the love-rat of the title, alongside Ida Lupino and Joan Fontaine as the two luckless women he's been deceiving.
