Hard-bitten cop Cornel Wilde pursues a private vendetta against Mob kingpin Richard Conte, but the powers that be order the case closed, leaving him with only one option - to turn up the heat on the gangster's girlfriend. Joseph H Lewis's forgotten classic blurs the lines between good and evil, with glimpses of stark violence and eroticism subtly punctuating the thriller's dark tones.
