Becket
Movie (1964)
This historical drama boasts charismatic lead performances from Richard Burton and Peter O'Toole. Henry II (O'Toole) finds himself in need of an Archbishop of Canterbury when the current incumbent dies. To reduce the influence of the Vatican, he appoints his old friend Thomas a Becket (Burton) to the position. But he soon finds the priest is more loyal to the church than the throne. John Gielgud and Donald Wolfit also star. The first in a double bill of films shown as part of the Summer of British Film season
