Powell and Pressburger's solid and thought-provoking World War Two adventure about the British Navy's pursuit and eventual cornering of enemy battleship the Graf Spee in Montevideo harbour, where German commanding officer Peter Finch is faced with an impossible dilemma. Starring John Gregson, Anthony Quayle, Bernard Lee and Jack Gwillim. Finch pulls off something of a coup by managing to portray a Nazi officer as a sympathetic and even noble figure at a time when emotions were still running high where the conflict was concerned
