Atuat, a woman in an Inuit tribe is forced to marry the son of a tribal chief, despite her love for unassuming hunter Atanarjuat. He eventually summons the courage to face his rival and marries Atuat, but his vanquished enemy plots revenge with the aid of his seductive sister, leaving Atanarjuat forced to flee into the icy wilderness. This epic yet intimate tale is based on an ancient Inuit legend, and was the first film ever made in the Inuktitut language. Starring Natar Ungalaaq and Sylvia Ivalu
