      Mel Gibson stars as drug dealer Dale McKussic, who claims he is trying to go straight in this visually stunning romantic thriller. Kurt Russell co-stars as an old friend of Gibson's who has stayed on the straight and narrow and become a celebrated cop, and has now been assigned the task of bringing him to justice. When the detective learns of McKussic's relationship with restaurateur Michelle Pfeiffer, he becomes convinced she is the key to closing the case. But as he gets closer to her in pursuit of the truth, he also falls for her. The cast, which also includes Raul Julia, JT Walsh and Arye Gross, give uniformly excellent performances.

Director M Night Shyamalan's Oscar-nominated supernatural chiller stars Bruce Willis as the psychologist and features an impressive debut from Haley Joel Osment, who also received a nod from the Academy - as did Toni Collette, who stars as the youngster's worried mother. Shyamalan's penchant for unexpected twists has been criticised in recent years, but the uninitiated will be genuinely astounded by the outcome here. With Olivia Williams and Donnie Wahlberg
