Peter Jackson's epic fantasy adventure remains loyal to the 1933 classic and features some breathtaking CGI effects, not least Kong itself, brought to life by the same motion-capture method that the director and actor Andy Serkis used to create Lord of the Rings' Gollum. Anthony Hopkins reprises his most famous role as Hannibal Lecter for this gripping thriller prequel. Edward Norton co-stars as Will Graham, the FBI agent who first captured Lecter, only to quit the bureau soon after. However, he is lured out of retirement when a demented murderer begins slaughtering entire families every full moon, forcing Graham to seek the imprisoned cannibal's expertise. Adapted from the first, and arguably best, of Thomas Harris' novels to feature Lecter, this effective chiller may not be in the same league as The Silence of the Lambs, but it does boast a top-notch cast, from Ralph Fiennes' creepy yet tragic killer to Philip Seymour Hoffman's sleazy tabloid hack.
