      Casino Royale

Not to be mistaken with the recent 007 blockbuster featuring Daniel Craig, this espionage spoof follows ageing superspy Sir James Bond as he comes out of retirement to tackle a mysterious mastermind who wants to take over the world. Meanwhile, another agent disguises himself as Bond to face the evil genius over the baccarat table. David Niven, Woody Allen and Peter Sellers head the all-star cast, so you might expect it to be a laugh-out-loud riot, but too many of the gags collapse. Eight scriptwriters and six directors attempted to whip the movie into some kind of shape, but it's quite clear nobody knew what they were trying to accomplish. By the end, you won't either. Orson Welles, Deborah Kerr and original Bond girl Ursula Andress co-star

      Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Suspenseful remake of the classic sci-fi thriller, starring Donald Sutherland as a San Francisco health inspector who becomes suspicious of people behaving strangely across the city. As he investigates, he discovers the terrifying truth - aliens have arrived on Earth in seed pods and are gradually replacing the human race with emotionless duplicates. Philip Kaufman's film is one of the few remakes that stands comparison with the original, creating an effective atmosphere of paranoia. With Brooke Adams, Leonard Nimoy, Jeff Goldblum and Veronica Cartwright, and featuring a cameo appearance by Kevin McCarthy, the star of the 1956 version

      Touch of Evil

For many, Citizen Kane was Orson Welles' greatest movie. However, ask most critics what their second favourite is and it will be a toss up between this and The Third Man. It's an atmospheric drama, starring Welles and Charlton Heston as a narcotics investigator and a police chief who clash over a murder inquiry in a Mexican border town. Don't miss that classic one-take opening and the foot-tapping soundtrack which is to die for. Janet Leigh, Marlene Dietrich and Joseph Calleia co-star

      Mary, Queen of Scots

Glorious historical biopic about the life and loves of the ill-fated monarch, whose opposition to Elizabeth I led to her execution. Vanessa Redgrave is superb in the title role, while Glenda Jackson is equally impressive as her strong-willed cousin, and while this offering might not always stick to the facts, it's a wonderful treat. Support comes courtesy of Timothy Dalton, Patrick McGoohan, Nigel Davenport and Ian Holm. Includes RTE News and Weather at 3.00
