      A Good Year

Gladiator duo director Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe are reunited for this comedy drama, which is based on Peter Mayle's best-selling novel. Crowe stars as Max Skinner, a soulless city trader in Britain who inherits from his uncle the vineyard in France where he spent much of his childhood. However, when Max travels to France to determine the value of his newly acquired property, he is prompted to reassess his life. Albert Finney, Abbie Cornish and Marion Cotillard also star.

      The Thing

Kurt Russell stars in John Carpenter's special-effects-laden remake of the sci-fi shocker. An Antarctic research base is invaded by a mysterious shape-shifting alien that kills and imitates its prey. The small crew of scientists face the terrifying task of preventing the creature from making it's way to civilisation, while uncertain which of them are real and which are monsters in disguise. The rare remake that surpasses the original, Carpenter's film is a masterclass in paranoia and claustrophobia. When the beast does show itself, it comes courtesy of some unforgettably twisted special effects. Wilford Brimley, Keith David, Richard Dysart and David Clennon lend support amid the gore.

    • 2:25pm
      The Devil's Advocate

Hotshot lawyer Keanu Reeves is lured away from his provincial practice to work for a powerful big-city company, but gradually comes to realise that charismatic new boss Al Pacino is none other than Satan himself. Glossy (and often unintentionally funny) thriller, with Pacino clearly relishing the chance to portray over-the-top evil. Also starring Charlize Theron and Jeffrey Jones
