      Some Like It Hot

Two male jazz musicians don drag and hide out with an all-girl band to evade gangsters pursuing them - with predictable romantic confusions. Billy Wilder's classic comedy, starring Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis as the cross-dressing fugitives, with Marilyn Monroe in arguably her most famous role as the band's singer. Lemmon and Curtis tested their costumes by wearing them in public - and when no one batted an eyelid, they knew they'd perfected them

A bored publisher revels in his newfound freedom when his wife and son go away to the country. When a beautiful but naive actress moves in upstairs, he finds himself tempted to turn his fantasies of an affair into reality. But even in his dreams, his conscience has a way of tripping him up. ET: The Extra-Terrestrial

Steven Spielberg's delightful fantasy loses none of its charm on the small screen. For the uninitiated, it tells the tale of a lonely boy (Henry Thomas) befriended by a stranded alien. He's drawn into all manner of adventures as he and his friends attempt to return the creature to its home. This was the most lucrative film of all time (until Jurassic Park came along) and despite all the usual Spielberg trademarks - kids in suburbia, flashing lights, special effects - it's a real film from the heart. John Williams' outstanding soundtrack never fails to move, especially in the bike ride across the moon sequence. Look out for Drew Barrymore as the wide-eyed Gertie

An orphaned brother and sister face losing their beloved dog when they go into a foster home that does not allow pets. Family comedy, starring Emma Roberts, Jake T Austin, Don Cheadle and Lisa Kudrow.

      All the President's Men

Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman star as real-life Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, who persevered in their investigation of the links between the Watergate break-in and the White House, a scandal that eventually forced the resignation of President Nixon. Both thrilling and superbly performed, director Alan J Pakula's drama is an impressive interpretation of one of the greatest political scandals in American history

Jaw-dropping battle sequences and solid performances from the cast ensured this was a hit at the box office, and the escalating tension between the two seafaring rivals proves to be gripping viewing.
