As the crowds gathered at Universal Studios Hollywood's Gibson Amphitheatre, the stage was set for big wins for young musicians Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. Rumours were floating around before the Teen Choice Awards that teen power-couple Justin Bieber and Ms. Gomez had split, something that was fuelled when they arrived separately on the blue carpet, however the lovebirds showed a display of unity and affection when seated together during the ceremony. 1997: First book published Meet Harry Potter - he is the boy who lived. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (or Sorcerer's Stone for the US market) was published on 30 June 1997 in the UK. The life of wizardry, muggles and Parseltongue was exposed to the world. Plus, who knew there was a Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station in London? The first chapter of the book is set in 1981 (hardcore fans should know how this is worked out, as J.K. Cry God for Harry, England and King George -- British triumph again at Oscars
The flags in Los Angeles felt as if they should be sporting a different kind of red, white and blue on Monday morning as a British drama about a British monarch set in Britain, with a British production team costing a mere eight million British pounds sterling waltzed its way to victory in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor categories at the 83rd Academy Awards.
