PASADENA, Calif. -- Few if any television executives are as forthcoming as FX president and general manager John Landgraf. So on the final day of the annual winter Television Critics Association "press tour," he didn't duck or even dodge locatetv.com's questions about how and why his network bit on a new Charlie Sheen comedy series adapted from the 2003 feature film Anger Management. He also was the only high level exec to appear onstage in jeans. Sheen and veteran television producer Bruce Helford (The Drew Carey Show) pitched the show to a number of networks, Landgraf said Sunday. "I walked into… read more »

Remains of the dead: Sheen's Charlie Harper ends up in a Dustbuster on season premiere of Two and a Half Men

Nice To Meet You, Walden Schmidt

I'm still scratching my head -- literally and figuratively -- trying to recall an instance in which a departing TV character took a bigger beating than Charlie Sheen's Charlie Harper. To no avail, it should be noted. Not that he didn't ask for it or deserve it. Sheen's recently launched contrition tour, during which he's been apologizing for his infamous "Rock Star From Mars/Goddess" daze, came well after the script was written for this season's premiere of Two and a Half Men and its introduction of Ashton Kutcher in the new role of broken-hearted billionaire Walden Schmidt. The show's creator and… read more »

Sheen still careening and cashing in with his oddest show on earth

CSHWEBHEADER

Although it's been said and sung many times, many ways, the old axiom has never held truer: There's no business like show business. Ask Charlie Sheen. At this point, many might be more than ready for a welcome respite from him. Myself included. But here I am, feeding the beast for perhaps one last time. Because frankly, the above logo for  his newly opened online store -- get your official "Duh, Winning" t shirts, etc. -- is sheer, twisted marketing genius. Could there be any better depiction of him than as a wild-haired, wild-eyed, chain-smokin', flame-shootin', fully-armored "warlock"? I think… read more »

Offspring of famous stars -- separating the good from the bad (are you listening, Charlie Sheen?)

Big stars and their problematic offspring have long been headline-makers. Some of the sons and daughters born to famous parents have tragically taken their lives. Others are in and out of rehab. Estrangements also abound, with Angelina Jolie and her father, Jon Voight, having their very public ups and downs while Billy Ray Cyrus recently vented, in the pages of GQ magazine, on how fame has taken his daughter, Miley, away from him. Then there's Charlie Sheen, who's in a league of his own. But this is not about him or them. Instead we're spotlighting 10 children of famous parents… read more »

Is Charlie Sheen really winning?

Charlie Sheen Internship

Pretty much every channel and newspaper publication have been talking about Charlie Sheen this week after he got fired from the U.S. sitcom, Two and a Half Men. Personally I wasn't that surprised at all, perhaps more surprised it took Warner Bros several weeks to do it. After criticising the show's creator Chuck Lorre, it seemed pretty inevitable that the highest paid TV star was going to get the heave-ho. Yet Mr. Sheen still claims he is winning, and I'm not sure how this is actually possible. He was being paid $1.25 million (around £770,000) per episode to star in… read more »
