by on January 16th 2012 at 11:29 am

It was a night of wins for the British at The 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards yesterday which was hosted by fellow Brit Ricky Gervais. Hosting for the third time in a row, Gervais managed to tone down the gags this year and had the audience in hysterics with his jokes about Kim Kardashian and other American celebrities. English actor Idris Elba, actress Kate Winslet and the cast of Downton Abbey were all winners on the night proving that there is a lot of talent this side of the pond. Actress Meryl Streep who won an award for her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in 'Iron Lady' even thanked the people of England during her acceptance speech for letting her 'trample over their history'. But these are just a few who grabbed gongs at the Golden Globes 2012, others are listed below.

What are your thoughts on who won, what did you think of Ricky Gervais as a host and who wowed on the Golden Globes red carpet? Let us know and leave your comments.

  1. I was excited to see Idris Elba win for best miniseries. Luther is one of the best shows on BBC America next to The Hour, Being Human, Doctor Who, Mistresses, The Fades, Primeval, and The Graham Norton show. I jumped up and squealed like a 6 year old girl on Christmas morning.

  2. I just started watching Downtown Abbie and were it not for all of the shows acoledes and fan fair I would have passed it up, but the word around town was the show is actually good, and so I caved in and tuned into the show and discovered I really loved the show. What was even better was discovering Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman right after DTA. Sherlock has got to be one of the best shows on television that isn't getting much fan fair, what a shock!

  3. Hey Laura - absolutely agree with you. Sherlock is pretty awesome, it's so cleverly done!
