All-Star Legends Celebrity Softball Game

We all like to see celebrities out of their comfort zone, and what’s a better way than by watching them get hot and sweaty as they run around a baseball field acting goofy and showing off?

Major League Baseball marked the half way point in the season with the unmissable All-Star 2 day event. And possibly for TV fans, the highlight of the event was the Taco Bell All-Star Legends Celebrity game. Sports stars, musicians and familiar TV faces such as Billy Bob Thornton and Andy Richter, clubbed together with old time baseball legends to play a friendly game of softball.

It is probably safe to say that Nelly played the best, by making a beautiful diving catch in the left field and hitting a home run later that inning. I think he deserved the MVP title, don’t you? Jenna Fischer star of The Office put in a decent effort. However, it was Ashanti who let the girls down by losing the game for the American League team, when she started running to second base. Lack of attention got her tagged out to end the game.

But it was clear the celebrities were letting their hair down and having fun, which of course is what it is all about. Actress Annie Wersching, from popular series 24, was seen clowning around during the warm ups and Jon Hamm, star of Mad Men, was ecstatic that he got to fulfil his childhood dream playing baseball. And like true celebrity style they received special treatment. With collapsible fences roughly half way into the outfield it ensured that no harm was caused and no nails were broken.

So with much banter and limited baseball skills, the TV stars entertained us once again. However, I doubt they will be signing up to play for the Dodgers any time soon. They better not give up their day job!

Up there with Wikipedia!

by Lottie on December 9th 2008 at 9:41 pm

Just in – LocateTV beats Wikipedia, at least according to Tina from MakeUseOf.com.  In her article “The Best Sites For TV Show Episode Guides & More” she writes many nice things about us:

“LocateTV is superior because it takes advantage of many features the internet has to offer.”

“All components are integrated with ease of use in mind.”

Thanks Tina! It’s posts like this that spur us on to keep making LocateTV better and better.

Traditional TV schedules are dead, apparently

by Molly on January 16th 2008 at 2:02 pm

According to Tiscali’s TV Trends Report 2007 published today:

Tiscali TV Trends Report 2007

Strong stuff; but in many ways good news for LocateTV. The report, independent although commissioned by UK broadband and media provider Tiscali, claims that in a competitive and fast-moving entertainment market, ‘choice is key and will have a significant impact on who suceeds’.

Absolutely. We set up the site because our experiences suggested that, with so much content available over so many platforms (TV, DVD, the different online providers), people want to find out exactly where and when they can see their favourite shows and actors, rather than wade through crowded schedules, constantly missing programmes or repeats of old favourites or shows they’ve been recommended.

It’ll be interesting to see how the big commercial broadcasters respond to these new ways of watching TV. What with the LA writers’ strikes and copyright disputes, one thing’s sure: the times, they are a-changin.

Check your region

Check your region

Just imagine: you own an Orlando Bloom fan site. You search for Mr Bloom on LocateTV, intending to embed one of our lovely widgets on your home page sidebar so that all your readers can instantly see which of his movies is next on TV, every time they visit your site. But the search result for Orlando shows… nothing. Surely not – that elfishly piratical Brit must have some blockbuster showing in the next couple of weeks! This was the dilemma of Sarah over at excellent siteThe Orlando Bloom Files and was proving something of a mystery… until she double-checked her region settings by clicking on the flag on the top right of LocateTV. She was set as an American, but her postcode and channels were wrong – once changed, they did indeed show all the great Bloom movies airing soon. So Sarah’s happy, her loyal Orlandophile readers are happy, we’re all happy.

Messsage of the fable: check your region, your postcode and your channels to ensure you’re getting the LocateTV data that’s relevant to you. Then enjoy the show.

The Golden Compass or Labyrinth?

by Molly on December 10th 2007 at 3:10 pm

With the newly released The Golden Compass getting mixed reviews – is it a spine-tingling spectacular or a politics-and-religion-shy disappointment compared to Philip Pullman’s books? – we’d like to ask you a provocative question.

Are today’s fantasy movies too CGI-slick? Was the rough-around-the-edges style of something like Jim Henson’s Labyrinth more spooky and magical than the glossy beauty of Lord of the Rings? Are epics bigger and better than ever, or do you pine for the old days of Willow, Legend and the like? Do amazing effects mean that our imaginations are redundant?

Your mission should you choose to accept it, has two stages:

First, check out our latest theme page showing where and when you can catch some of the best old fantasy epics on TV, old and new.

Now, argue your corner: has fantasy lost it’s magic? Leave a comment or drop us a link to your blog.
