On 10th April 2011 the movie star, Aikido champion, crime fighter and blues guitar extraordinaire Steven Seagal celebrates his 59th birthday. Compared to most Hollywood actors, Seagal seems to have had an extremely eclectic career; achieving great heights as an Aikido champion/instructor, a Deputy Sherriff, an energy drink marketer, a political activist, a screenwriter, a musician, an action film star and all-round absolute badass. Cry God for Harry, England and King George -- British triumph again at Oscars
The flags in Los Angeles felt as if they should be sporting a different kind of red, white and blue on Monday morning as a British drama about a British monarch set in Britain, with a British production team costing a mere eight million British pounds sterling waltzed its way to victory in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor categories at the 83rd Academy Awards. Best TV and Movie Theme Tunes

I remember, not so long ago, when the most memorable part of a cinematic experience used to be the musical theme -- introduced within the opening credits and then shamelessly lacquered on for dramatic effect throughout the production. If you think of 2001: A Space Odyssey, your mind is immediately filled with the ominous pedal and climb of Richard Strauss's "Thus Spoke Zarathustra". My perception of The Great Escape is as a masterpiece comprising 25% snare-drum, 25% flute, 25% staccato tuba and 25% Steve McQueen.
