Whether he’s the captain of a pirate ship, a peculiar chocolate factory owner, a crazed barber shop demon, or a man with scissor hands, only the exceptional Johnny Depp can execute such madcap characters, and so well.

Presently, Johnny Depp is one of our top 10 actors in our ‘My Picks’ application. Those with J.D in their ‘My Picks’ will be alerted for such films as ‘Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,’ ‘Blow,’ ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ ‘Sleepy Hollow‘ and more.

Depp has certainly built some what of a repute and auteur status. His range of roles has made him one of our most treasured actors and most loved (not to mention most handsome!)

But when will these off-the-wall roles ever end? Is there anything he can’t perform? Well here are a few things he’s been working on, and you can decide…

John Dillinger is his name, a bullet proof, charming 1930’s gangster, charismatic and untouchable (much like the gorgeous Depp himself!) Depp has been cast as one of the most notorious Chicago bank robbers of its time in the new true to life film ‘Public Enemies.’

This latest action thriller is an adaptation of Bryan Burrough’s ‘Public Enemies: America’s Greatest Crime Wave and the Birth of the FBI, 1933-34.’ The film is apparently not exactly historically accurate with a few twists created for the narrative structure, but critics have rated it highly for its ‘charismatic Depp performance’ and ‘weird twilight zone between docu-style reality and gorgeous mythmaking.’

If you’re a fan of J.D and are looking forward to more alternative roles then watch out for the 4th instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean as there’s word of production in the pipeline. Captain Jack ahoy!

And Tim Burton’s weird and wonderful movie, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is now in post-production and due for US and UK release in March 2010. It comprises of J.D playing the infamous ‘Mad Hatter.’ With this in mind, I don’t think Depp will ever cease to amaze us with his distinctive, atypical character roles.

One thing I love about working at LocateTV is that you find out loads of interesting info about films, series and actors. Each week I’m totally star struck by someone new! Recently I came across the name Richard Armitage, who I have to admit I wasn’t familiar with. But with him being the most ‘Picked’ person on LocateTV I knew there had to be something I was missing! And here is what I found…

Well I have to say, it’s not hard to see why he’s so popular on LocateTV - he is rather tasty! With his dark features and piercing blue eyes, you can see why he’s dubbed the modern day Mr. Darcy!

Richard has been seen walking the copses of Sherwood Forest as Sir Guy of Gisborne in the BBC series Robin Hood and protecting national security as MI5 agent Lucas North in Spooks.  Other roles include parts in Cold Feet, Sparkhouse, Between the Sheets, The Impressionists and this years Moving On.

But when describing him to friends, “You know… one of the bad guys from Robin Hood…?”  Replies often consisted of, “Oh you mean the sexy guy from North and South!” Ladies, really! But it seems, like my friends, many of you recall him from that series as the romantic hero John Thornton. And since then he’s accumulated a pretty dedicated fan base who call themselves The Armitage Army. (and who also carry our embed!)

But our Richard is not restricted to the serious, sultry drama parts he’s often associated with. He has shown his lighter side as Dawn French’s fancy in the Vicar of Dibley and has also done some narration.

And what would Richard add to his ‘Picks’ on LocateTV? Well, apparently his favourite TV show is Six Feet Under.

So there we have it, the Richard Armitage breakdown. ‘All power to the ‘Picks’!’ Watch this space for more on your favourite actors, series and films…

Here are LocateTV’s favourite DVD releases for this week…

The Edge of Love – starring Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller, is a biographical romance based on the loves of poet Dylan Thomas.

As if our pets weren’t pampered enough? Hotel for Dogs is family fun where stray dogs are secretly rescued and kept in an abandoned hotel. What next, pet airways? Hmmm…

Scarily based on a true story, The Haunting in Connecticut is the chilling account of a woman who buys a former funeral parlour only to have its horrifying past unveiled with the return of its previous tenant – a demonic clairvoyant.

From Academy Award winners Graham King and Martin Scorsese and starring the talented Emily Blunt, comes the story of The Young Victoria and her early rise to power.

After the death of his wife, a man unwisely moves himself and his three children to Genova in Italy. Starring Brit favourite, Colin Firth

On TV box-set this week…

The 2nd season of Mad Men, set in the 60’s and featuring Jon Hamm as ad-man Don Draper who struggles to stay ahead of the rapidly changing times.

As sad viewers say goodbye to the popular series on TV, The 11th season of ER is here to take home.
